Answers to forgotten questions
Aug. 16th, 2009 11:45 amI asked y'all to, and I quote, "Ask me anything" wayyyy back at this post weeks ago, and then failed to actually answer them. Allow me to reverse this trend of negligence, if I may:
Will Cinema Bowl return? — Yes, eventually. Just need to get my head screwed on straight. As much fun as this particular round is, however, this will be the last bracket competition I ever do in this journal.
When are you going to go to Boston and make [redacted]'s fantasies actual? — Working on it. *cough*
If you could emigrate to a colony on Mars, would you? — Nahh. I like it here too much. Visiting friends there, especially if there are decent coffee shops around? Sure!
In the Whoniverse, which is your favorite Doctor and why? ^_^ — Ahh, you do ask the difficult questions, don't you? I'm a Johnny-come-lately to the Doctor, I'm sorry to say, and although I feel like I'm missing the point by picking one of the new Doctors, I'm a-gonna have to john the brungling chorus and go with Tennant, mostly because he nails all the emotional strata: the joy of traveling, the loneliness and regret, both the fear and the heroism, all of the conflicts inherent in being who he is. Plus, as a coworker said, "It was like we got Tom Baker back." And, well, he's cute. (If I had to pick a classic Doctor, it'd be a tough toss-up between Tom Baker and Davison; to this day, for all intents and purposes, Baker is the Doctor, but I love what Davison brought to the table.)
Do you know that Steven Wright joke or did the reference just go whooshing over your head? — I bought some used paint. It was in the shape of a house.
What's coffee milk? — So glad you asked! Coffee milk is something
mgrasso introduced me to, and it really is a Rhode Island delicacy—you can get it in pretty much any diner in the state, and no one outside RI knows what it is. Basically, you take a glass of milk, and stir in a stiff shot of coffee milk, which is like Hershey's syrup, only tan and coffee-flavored. There are two major brands of coffee syrup out there; I happened to find a bottle of the Autocrat brand at my local grocery store (check near the Hershey's, and you might find yourself fortunate). When I told
rafaela about it, she seemed unenthused; when I gave her my glass and asked her to take a sip, she drained half the glass and asked me if I could make her one of those. Goooood stuff.
What gives you the most peace? — Kneejerk answer? Good food, especially when dear friends and loved ones are involved. Dining in restaurants has been a profound pleasure since I was a kid, and for me, cooking for groups of people I love simply isn't work, and never has been. Also, autumn, full stop. Combine the two, and you'll find me swooning.
What is your favorite movie? — Singin' in the Rain, easily. Somewhere in this stack of papers next to the computer, I have a list of my 150 favorite movies of all time (yes, I'm obsessive; why do you ask?), and there's a lot of rearranging that goes on even in the top ten—The Piano shifts up, Vanya on 42nd Street moves down, Brazil shows up out of nowhere—but Singin' never, ever leaves the top spot.
Oh, and feel free to ask more!
