Pen, meet paper. Forehead, meet desk.

I'm rapidly coming to learn how fragile the creative spark truly is.

Take today, for example. I was at work, scribbling away at the novel-thingy, specifically on a delicate little scene between Peter and Vera, the two main characters, that takes place almost entirely within a photographer's darkroom. It's tricky to write, because this is only the second time their paths have crossed, and the first one was, well, strange. (Excerpt on my NaNoWriMo user page explains what I mean pretty well.)

Anyroad, I'm a couple pages in on today's writing, when I get a half-hour break away from my desk, which I choose to spend in front of the TV in the break room, thinking some mindless entertainment will clear out some of the cobwebs. What I found, though, was Bravo's "100 Scariest Movie Moments" countdown special. Yeah.

Lemme tell you something that may be self-evident, but here goes: When you've just seen That Scene from Re-Animator for the first time, the option of simply going back to writing delicate little scenes in photographers' darkrooms goes pretty much bye-bye. *shudder* When words like "blood-red" and "ghastly" started turning up, I had to quit before someone lost an arm or something.

Oh, and if the sheets accidentally get wound around my legs in my sleep tonight, my monkey-brain will think I've just woken up in the middle of the last shot of The Vanishing, and I will have a heart attack and die. I'm hoping this does not happen.

Nail-biting suspense

Vacation begins in T-minus 10 hours and counting, assuming I don't call in with malaria or something, which is damned tempting. Thanks to fortuitous timing and the foibles of my contract (don't ask), my one-week vacation actually adds up to 1 weeks 5 days. I already have some stuff planned, which is as follows:
* all-day SCA event this Saturday
* chasing the kids around next weekend
* sitting around in my skivvies and sighing contently at the prospct of 12 days of liberty all day tomorrow.

Any other suggestions?

Weather suckage

I went to cross Pine Street to get to my car after work today, and found myself wading through about a foot of water, in 42° weather. After that, it was hours before I made it home and out of my wet clothes. I avoided hypothermia, though. I'm not entirely sure how.

Anyway, little of that matters now, since I'm (a) in my bathrobe and slippers, (b) on vacation, and (c) about to pass out for the night. Woo!
