Weekendery

Report from my weekend, in utterly random order, much like my brain:

1) Re the A Midsummer Night's Dream reading: [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain was born to play Bottom. I can't say as I was necessarily born to play Francis Flute, but we had a good one-two act going on the Pyramus/Thisbe bit. Great fun. (He's also a trooper, carrying on even upon being dropped on his head.)

2) We had a Squeeing Chorus at the video screenings: four teen and almost-teen girls who banded together in the middle of the living room and greeting important romantic plot points with a heartfelt collective "Awwwww!" Recommended for future viewings.

3) Whoever ordered the weather for the weekend, thank you. It rocked.

4) Up until now, the tattoo I've been pondering for my 40th birthday has been this image from the title page of Masquerade. [livejournal.com profile] felisdemens apparently knows my obessions too well, because she suggested the illustration from the first edition cover of Watership Down.. Needless to say, she nailed it. (As she has recently acquired a tattoo of the Lorem Ipsum, i.e. the Greatest Tattoo Ever, I trust her judgment on such matters.)

5) Apparently there is some sort of federal by-law against air mattresses that don't leak. Sorry, guys.

6) Awesome things at [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon's house:
* [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon's kitchen
* [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon's dog, Celefin
* [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon

7) Statement overheard from a member of the Squeeing Chorus after the Chorus's first-ever viewing of Real Genius: "The 80's were awesome! My generation sucks!" Um. Maybe an emergency round of Winger videos and "Small Wonder" reruns are in order, to help exorcize whatever demon made her say that.

8) And speaking of Real Genius: Jordan. Still smitten, 25 years later. That is all.

9) Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland had amazing art direction, gorgeous cinematography and a typically wondrous performance from Johnny Depp. It's a shame they couldn't afford a script. (And whilst I agree with Ebert's assertion that a final action sequence wasn't called for, it was worth it just to get that Alice into that suit of armor. Just sayin'.)

10) Apparently all effort towards geekening my kids have proven successful, because when we stopped in Worcester to hang out with them, their chosen activities were lunch at a Chinese buffet, followed by a trip to the hugest comic shop I've ever seen: back-stock 'til Doomsday, board games, collectibles I would actually pay money for, used CDs, used DVDs, used vinyl, used expletive-deleted-ing Laserdiscs, for cryin' out loud. Oh, and Japanese ska playing on the stereo. I was warned by Kristi to keep my wallet chained up for the duration. Sage advice.

11) Further evidence of kid-geekening: when we launched into a discussion of Platonic solids, Abbey ran to get her D&D dice. I regret that we did not have sufficient time to play a couple of rooms, as she requested.

12) Greetings to my new-found appreciation for public transit. It was either that or parking in Davis Square, which...no. Just no.

13) We've now established that yes, I am indeed a wuss. We move on.

14) Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] emilytheslayer for teaching us all that, although Hermia did not actually say, "Like, oh. My. GOD," she totally would have. Also to [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain's daughter for, "Relationship status: it's complicated."

15) Wanna move to Boston. This surprises no one. The weekend took a lot out of me in multiple deep-seated ways. Still recovering. Still want to move to Boston.

Thank you so much! And I mean it—you were absolutely amazing. I hope we get to act together again sometime.

Oh, and thank you also for the explanation on what happened! *laugh* I was emoting skyward at that point, and it really did sound like cranium meeting hardwood.

10)

So that was your first trip to "That's Entertainment"?

Right next to the 2nd hand music store, and a couple of doors down from "C.C. Lowell" art and craft suply store.

I've spent a fair amount of money on that block.

That was the one! *laugh* You know of whence I speak, then. I managed to escape with just a pack of Black Black gum and a couple of doodads for the kids; Abbey gave me a stern, "Dad! No!" when I tried to beeline into the music shop.

Right, I'll be in my bunk.

Amen. I glanced around the room a couple fo times when she was on, and saw a lot of glassy-eyed grins. I think we're not even remotely alone on this one.

You will? Good, less competition.

Me, I'll be in HER bunk. Well, at the door anyway, asking very politely if I could come in and study with her.
