The one and only downside to all-night IMs and phone calls with nifty people is that it severely cuts into my journal updating. (Sleep is pretty much expendable these days.) So:

1) Reasons My Ex Is Totally Cool, Vol. I: Kristi got her motorcycle permit yesterday. *fist pump* I don't know if she actually reads this journal, but everyone join me in a congratulatory "Woohoo!" accompanied by a collective raise-the-roof gesture. She was positively beaming when she came by on Sunday after her test. And speaking of which...

2) Reasons My Ex Is Totally Cool, Vol. II: Also on Sunday evening, Kristi had the following conversation with Abbey:
Kristi: Do you know what holiday tomorrow is?
Abbey: It's Columbus Day!
Kristi: Right! And do you know what we celebrate on Columbus Day?
Abbey: No...
Kristi: It's the day a bunch of Indians discovered Christopher Columbus standing on a beach.
I am so glad she's the mother of my children. I had to give her a hug after that.

3) Yesterday was Nik's first day at Crock-a-Gators Day Care. Miraculously, it only took about twenty minutes to pry him from my trouser leg and get out the door, to the soundtrack of his heartbroken screaming. (Small children have a way of making their parents feel like Attila the Hun sometimes.) Mut as I've said before, he's a resilient kid: evidently, he hollered for a few minutes after I left, then sat in a corner and just watched the other kids, and then snack time came, which guaranteed that he was going to be the care providers' bestest friend ever. When I picked him up, he was so excited (quote: "Daddy! I'm so glad to see you!"), telling me all about the walk to the library and having to be quiet during rest time, and he showed me the picture that he "made just for Daddy." Yes, I turned into a puddle of applesauce right then and there.

But understand that he never get all chatty-babbly that way, like his sister does, so I'm now feeling quite good about taking him there on a regular basis. Which, of course, doesn't mean that I don't wish they'd lose the Bible study. And drop their prices by a good thirty bucks a week. And it didn't stop Nik from screaming his head off again this morning. *sigh*

4) I pre-ordered this. And this. And especially, especially this. Naughty Adam.

5) It's autumn. The leaves are turning. The air is cool. I have dear friends that I get to talk to. *contented sigh* Life is good.

Well, off, to work on [livejournal.com profile] rafaela's CD mix...
