Trotting out the old check-in poll from the LJ days, because if you're going to reinstate old blogging habits, might as well reinstate them all:

Open to: Registered Users, detailed results viewable to: Just the Poll Creator, participants: 10

How are you doing right now?

Right now, what is your greatest challenge?

Right now, what is your greatest joy?

Tell me something. Anything.

A couple of friends on Facebook shared ask-me-anything posts, but since that's an LJ thing and not an FB thing (responses kept secret):

Well, I've officially laid down some roots here in Dreamwidthland: I sprung for a paid account. [cue streamers and indulgent dancing] I did it for a bunch of reasons: to honor tradition (my LJ was paid for from day 1, back when you needed an invite code to get in free), to "give back," to support the continued existence of a tool that's rapidly becoming important to me, to get my mitts on that sweet, sweet user pic action. Also? To allow me to make polls again, because given the time so many of my dear ones are having right now I've wanted to bring back the following, which I used to run on the regular. So if you don't mind, please take a moment to answer:

Hope you all are doing well. Carry on.

[livejournal.com profile] mcmurphy79 has leveled the dare, and as I am at the moment bored off my tuchus, I say what the hell. Cutting and pasting from her post:

"I've been pretty shit at LJ. So........... Ask me any question(s), however many you want, and I'll answer them in subsequent entries. I'll let this run for a few days or a week, so ask me as many questions as you want about anything you want."

(My additions: Replies are screened. I will answer all questions, but I reserve the right to filter said answer if I feel said question is not for public consumption.)

My feet are planted and my loins girded. Have at me.

To celebrate the five bucks I just dropped to LJ to get my icons back along with access to the polling function, I'm dusting off the catch-up poll I do every now and again, mostly again. (I actually haven't done this in over a year, but it feels too soon because it's only a page back in my posting history. Ehh, c'est la fromage.) If you have a moment and are inclined to cotton to my ongoing nosiness, please feel free:

[Poll #2046353]
Thanks. Hope everyone's having a magnificent day.
slipjig3: (piggie)
I haven't done this since July, which given how sporadic my posting was last autumn barely pushes that last survey onto page 2, but I'm facing the confluence of boredom, a renewed paid account, and a boatload of worry over everyone here in the bowels of the Unbounded Winter of Crushed Optimism, so if you're reading this, please reply. I want to hear from you.

[Poll #2001097]

I've been remaining deliberately scarce on LJ for the past few weeks, along with Facebook and other social media, aside from the occasional like-button click or birthday shout-out to my son. I realized I needed some self-care somewhere between the scrambled sleep patterns and the nightly stress hives, so I turned down the input noise to see if it'd help the tension levels. I'm pleased to say that it did; I've been able to focus on [livejournal.com profile] rain_herself, the new home, the new album-in-progress with [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl (omigods, people, it's going to be amazing), and things that needed my attention. I'm finally coming back around to wanting to have contact with people again, but slowly, not wanting this to be scattershot or drama-laden or, for lack of a better term, wrong. I'm getting there, and learning a great deal about what needs learning, but that's a matter for another post (one not written the day after a Benadryl jag).

For now, hi. I hope you've all been well, and I hope you won't mind my breaking out the check-in poll again, because I want to hear from you. I'll be in touch.

[Poll #1976344]

As part of my hopeful return to the warm bower of LiveJournal, I wanted to return to this poll that I like to run periodically. I'm a tad taken aback, however, because I don't like to overdo it to the point that it appears more than once on the same page of my feed, and yet the last time I ran it was nearly a year ago. Gods, I've been away too long.

Still, so many of those near and dear to me are in a state of flux or uncertainty right now, which makes this the perfect time to do this. So. Please, take a moment and answer the following:

[Poll #1953250]

Yep, again. There are reasons I keep doing this every few years:

1) It's fun.
2) I bore easily.
3) I have last year's Sight and Sound Critics' Poll as a handy excuse.
4) I keep hoping for enough responses to make the results statistically interesting. This would be a number greater than 25, which is roughly the number of people tend to answer.

This time, though, I've gone outside of LJ in the hopes of raising up the nose count a bit. All I need from you (same as every other year) are your 10 favorite movies of all time. Just click here to participate. Thanks!
slipjig3: (filet o' fish)
I've done this poll a dozen times with some regularity, even if I'm not posting other stuff (with, like actual content) all that much. Sometimes it's a vain Hail Mary attempt on my part to wave my arms and say, "Yo! I'm here!" without actually having to say anything, although it's more often done as a response to my friends' list if everyone seems to be suffering from one sort of malaise or another. This time, though, it's going up for practical reasons: during my month-plus of not-posting, I've also been a bunch of non-f'list reading, and have lost track of many of you and where you are in your respective magical mystery tours. So please take a moment to answer the following, for which you have my gratitude:

[Poll #1912221]

Thank you. I hope all is well.

Wondering if it's just me:

[Poll #1898448]

I should have done this right after this post, but better late than never:

[Poll #1896909]

Feel free to explain your choices in comments. Also, even though many if not most of these terms are gender-specific, please do not feel constrained by terms attached to your own identified gender.
slipjig3: (piggie)
There seems to be a great deal of change in progress amongst my friends, good, bad, and otherwise. As it's been a while, I think it's time again for the check-in poll. Please take a moment to answer:

[Poll #1896371]

As y'all know, I write, perform, record and market my own music. I also do a weekly radio show (Sleight of Hand! Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern on party934.com, or any time on their Podcasts page! Be there!), for which I get to choose whatever music I want as long as it's within FCC regulations. Every now and then someone, most recently [livejournal.com profile] rubian77, will ask if I have played/will play some of my own stuff on the air. My answer has always been something like, "This isn't the place for it," but by now enough people have asked that I'm starting to wonder. So:

[Poll #1894833]

Thanksgiving was grand.
My kids failed to murder each other, despite their best efforts.
The move, planned originally for this Saturday, has been moved back to this Thursday.
I may be coming down with a cold.
My coccyx is probably not broken, despite gravity's best efforts.
I'm working Christmas, but I'll have New Years Day off.
Radio show tomorrow, 7 to 9 in the evening, Eastern time.
Due to wonky sleep patterns and an encroaching cold, that is all the energy I have to type at this time, despite my best efforts.

Here, I'm done. You take over.

So much to talk about. So, so much. Note to self to discuss the following in as near a future as circumstances warrant:

* [livejournal.com profile] belgatherial, and the 26,917 things that go along with that
* the Glen Hansard concert in Manhattan
* [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon and [livejournal.com profile] zeyr's wedding (which is nearly beyond the statute of blogging limitations at this point)
* the radio show, yet again
* new glasses!
* the State of the Cabin, and the attendant promised-but-never-delivered Critter Report

In the meantime, I've been off the grid somewhat, and I miss you all, and I'm sensing a lot of flux filtering through the Interblag, so yet again I ask that you please take a moment to chime in on That Damned Poll:

[Poll #1853348]

Thanks. Love you guys.
slipjig3: (Default)
I occasionally get a little good-natured grief over the ubiquity of this poll in my LJ, but seeing as how I posted all of three times last month, and given how many of my friends and loved ones are going through difficult and stressful times right now, there's no better time for it. Please take a moment to answer:

[Poll #1823320]

I want a balalaika. Right frickin' now.

[Error: unknown template video]

Unrelatedly (well, actually, quasi-relatedly), I was one of many people who helped [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] yendi, Elayna and [livejournal.com profile] sindrian get moved to New House of Newness last weekend. It was the sort of adventure most moves are, but not long before the big day, 'Song notified me that in her files she had just found the original item list from the raving-mad scavenger hunt I had planned for her birthday a few years ago that due to weather, exhaustion, and general meh never quite happened.

This got me to thinking. As it does.

So, seeing as how I may or may not have prepared a completely new list for the as-yet-unscheduled occasion:

[Poll #1823308]

(Oh, and I found a therapist. Appointment has been rescheduled for next week, on account of me getting snowbound in South Hadley for the better part of the week. I'll keep y'all posted.)

(I made a mistake with the poll(s) on this before, so I'm going to start from scratch; if you happened to reply before, please re-enter your reply here. Thanks.)

Since I am officially sick unto gasping death of the whole posting-every-week-and-a-half deal, there is crealy only one solution to get back into the swing of things: foist the responsibility onto you poor folks and call it "audience participation it's time for a little audience participation!
