We're nearing the end of our shared vacation week (my office was good enough to shut down entirely for the duration), so it feels like we've made the most of it:

* workout at a Stupid Hour of the Morning, which is much of why I currently feel like twelve yards of movie theatre carpeting

* a trip to the farmer's market, which I've very much enjoyed doing more often: chicken, beef, sausage, red onions, fresh sage for the pasta with pumpkin and browned butter, raspberries, garlic. It doesn't hurt that with food transportation costs up, buying locally is no longer priced at a relative premium.

* haircut and beard management from Skylar my Hair Person, who left the salon that was a bit over a block away and somehow found a place that was even closer. I have weird, cowlick-riddled facial hair, so when I find someone who can deal with the encroaching face bramble, you best believe that I'm holding on with both hands.

Obligatory selfie herein, natch )

* a wander over to Bull Moose, where I found used copies of four different Pentangle albums on vinyl; only bought one, Solomon's Seal, because that one I'm pretty sure I'll never see in the wild again for boring nerdy reasons

* air fryer chicken wings and broccoli for dinner

* got a whole mess o'yak shaving done on the video for the YouTube-channel-that-I-swear-I'll-write-about-soon, which meant a lot of pre-editing, an annoying process made mroe so by the fact that I enjoy it, dammit

Tomorrow: an hour or two of filming, then date night with Andrea. Promises to be no less lovely.

Look at the clock calendar! It's time to start answering questions from the "ask me anything" post of two weeks ago! [livejournal.com profile] meowmensteen asked me this:

Do you have any awkward childhood photos you can share?

Hoo boy. Okay, first of all, by "awkward childhood photos," you mean "childhood photos," because I was a goober of epic proportions for a desperately long time. And yes, of course there are photos out there, but nothing in digital format; I do have a few photo albums that go all the way back, but they're packed up and not easily accessible at the moment. So I'm left with Facebook photos posted by others, which only go back to high school but which, I think, illustrate the problem a little too well:

This was taken at the wedding of my friend Tanya, seen here with me and our pal Aaron. I'm the middle school LINUX programmer/serial killer on the left, the one with the half-assed Ohio Congressman hair part, the waffle-sized glasses and that borrowed freedom-of-speech test case of a tie. I was 19, people. I was nineteen years old when this picture was taken, an age when I was a legal adult and really should have known better. The fact that I had any friends at all to take the photo with in the first place is a testament to the eternal human something or other, because my first reaction on seeing me back this is always "...oh, you poor thing...."

So, there you have it. I like to think I do a little better nowadays. Perhaps not better enough.

More answers to follow. Also, I'm still taking questions! Hit me up!

Gainful employment

I haven't posted a picture in a while, so here's me. Also pictured: my gainful employment. And a zit. Employment and a zit. Yep.

EDIT: I have no clue why it's displaying sideways. Just cock your head over and imagine I'm passed out drunk or something.

It was a Day of Blah. After a fantastic long weekend in South Hadley with the always-magnificent [livejournal.com profile] figmentj to celebrate our anniversary (and pardon me while I go all fluttery again), I haven't been much motivated to do much of anything; it was bad enough today that the thought, "I should do some recording," was actively scuttled by the follow-up, "Ehh, the guitar's still in the car," not that the rain was helping. I did get caught up on my e-mail, though, and grabbed an overextended shower, which is actually quite an accomplishment for a designated Day of Blah.

Even better, I had a lovely Skype date this afternoon/evening (her morning, due to her differing hemisphere) with the equally lovely [livejournal.com profile] belgatherial, and more Skypery later with [livejournal.com profile] figmentj for our nightly mutual tuck-in. It was at the end of this last conversation that I mentioned I was going to go fix m'self a bowl of Blueberry Morning cereal as a bedtime snack, which prompted [livejournal.com profile] figmentj to protest. "No!" she said. "It's Blueberry Morning, not Blueberry Evening!" When Judd Winick's theory that our generation is defined as the one that can eat cereal any time of the day failed to sway her, I told her I'd fix the problem immediately.

So at least I got that done today.

Mmmm! Factual accuracy stays crispy in milk! (For about 45 seconds, anyway, after which it all goes to hell. See also every political debate of the last 30 years.)

I have determined that by the time the smoke had cleared, I had gotten myself more exhausted at Arisia than I ever had before in my life, so much so that I'm still attempting to recover now (which is why I fell asleep in between phone calls at work today, I dare say). So to mark the space between here and the zillion posts that need to be written, let me just say this: on Saturday, for the first time ever at a con, I costumed.

Picture behind this cut tag )

White leather rabbit mask a birthday present from and by [livejournal.com profile] belgatherial, pocket watch a birthday present from and by [livejournal.com profile] figmentj, brocade coat a birthday present from myself (and by Shrine). There are stories, layers and spheres and clouds of stories about the parts and the whole, and about the whole Arisia weekend. The stories come soon; sleep comes faster. See you all in the dreaming.

As you will no doubt recall, the talking (talking, I say!) plush bacon toy has received the name Francis by popular decree.

As of Saturday? That's Sir Francis W. Bacon to you, cupcake.

The knighting above took place during Christmas morning festivities with [livejournal.com profile] fiddle_dragon, [livejournal.com profile] zeyr, [livejournal.com profile] mllelaurel and [livejournal.com profile] wired_lizard, the one doing the honors. Still trying to figure out what benefits accompany the honorary titles bestowed upon quasi-sentient breakfast meats. Not trying too hard.

In other bacon plush news, Francis is no longer allowed in public view in my apartment. Long story.
