Oy, my aching life...
Feb. 23rd, 2004 01:17 pmSo anyway, I just got off the phone from a chat with
rafaela a few minutes ago, during which I let fly with a rant (not directed at her, mind you) the likes of which I've only seldom allowed myself. It was bad enough that I moved the phone away from my head, so I wouldn't blow out the poor girl's eardrums.
Sadly, I lack the energy to recap, but the main gist was this: My job is officially too good, but just barely. Which is to say: it's not fulfilling or enjoyable in the slightest, and therefore does not, cannot and will not make me happy. But it pays extraordinarily well, in terms of both salary and benefits, which means I can't afford to go do something else, because "anything else" would mean a 50% pay cut, bare minimum. And when one is working a dead boring, dead end job in a town that is not now and never will be home, and where one can't even get a decent hug on a regular basis, having that level of nontransferable financial security is a real hardship.
My rant was not in so many words (the above paragraph, for example, does not include the word "fucking"), but the content was the same.
rafaela was an absolute dream, and helped me get to a more level place. But something has to give, folks. I have my limits.
*exhale* All right, WhinyTime is over for the day. I think I'll go take a nap.
