1) Brain tired. Arms bruised. Feet hurting. But fates be damned, I got stuff done. It's all good.
2) I've started writing on Stormwatch again. No, I don't know what particular fire got lit under me, but I'll take it. Stormwatch, by the way, is the project that's been following me around in one form or another for about 13 years or so, going from bad play to better play to short story, the most recent of which is threatening to blossom into a novel if I'm not careful. I'll tell more in another post.
3) Say, you know those cheap sets of bookshelves that use a cardboard backing with a fake wood print that you nail on? Interesting fact: window dressing or no, it actually holds the bastard together, as I discovered when it popped off its rigging somewhere during flight #2 of its up-5-flights-of-stairs journey. So now it's a fully functional bookcase, as long as it's leaning sideways against a wall.
4) I'd forgotten just how bloody good the Beatles' Help! album is.
5) Nik got taken out to have his hair cut last week. Seeing him now, it doesn't take long to figure out that he was taken by his ex-Navy grandfather, and not his post-hippie dad.
6) Abbey's latest listening requests in the car: Marshall Crenshaw's "Cynical Girl" (which Nik adores as well), and "Tribute" by Tenacious D. Hearing the gusto with which she shouts along, "We said, 'Nay! We are but MEN!' (Rock!)" is enough to make one proud to be a father.
7) Want Thai green chicken curry. Want badly.
8) So anyway, one of Abbey's after-school care providers was complimenting me on my Tori Amos concert T when I picked up the wee one late last week, and we got into a long conversation about our favorite music. This afternoon, I walked in, and she immediately handed me two homemade mix CDs, hand-Sharpied and jewel-boxed. Am I in trouble?
9) The kids will be fine...the kids will be fine...the kids will be fine...the kids will...
10) So what should
rafaela and I do on her first day in New York? (Besides that, smartiepants. Or that)
