Misericord, our fledgling folk-band-thingy, played at its second command performance open mike last night, again at the Rock Hill Bakehouse. We were a bit underprepared, but it hardly mattered; we sounded good, and the audience members (all 5 of them) seemed to enjoy it. Our set list:
1) "No Revelation" — An original of mine, solo, which I correctly introduced as "the I'm-Not-Prepared-for-Open-Mike-So-I'll-Just-Do-This-One-Again song"
2) "The Trees They Do Go High" — Traditional, Anna solo, a capella, kicking ass and taking names
3) "I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight" — For those of you wondering how long it'd take for us to get to a Richard Thompson number, the answer is halfway through performance number two. It went well, and marked the first time she and I have sung together on a number. I would give my pancreas to be able to harmonize at times like these.
4) "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" — They were allowing four songs that night instead of just three because of the small crowd, only we didn't have a fourth song, and since only one person in the room had heard us do this one last month, we shrugged and trotted it out again. 'Twas all good.
But as I said, we were well-received, and in fact were approached after the show by a fellow who worked there who asked if we had a full set we could put together for a possible performance. Pardon me while I do the Happydance now...
Oh, and after several years of living in this bucolic li'l enclave, I finally went swimming in Lake George ("Hypothermia Has Never Been So Convenient"). Not bad, even if it did mean removing my shirt in front of touristy-folks. Anna looked good, anyway.
