Gone shoppin'
Jul. 14th, 2004 10:30 pmSo there's this cat, see? And this cat is going to be moving into this apartment in approximately 17 hours, and it will not be toting its own Samsonite luggage, if you catch my drift. This, along with a woman whose maternal instincts get stired by wee li'l furry critter-type thingies, can mean only one thing: we spent the morning at PetSmart, attempting to manually resuscitate my poor debit card.
Actually, we didn't do badly at all. I've never owned a cat outright (although I've been in plenty of houses that had them), so I had a metric zilch in cat accoutrements going into this. We remedied that by hauling out litter and food and a litter box and a food dish and a water dish and toys and a brush and a handy-dandy carrying case, probably cracking the unfortunate shopping cart but managing to keep within budgetary restrictions. And as I said, the kitty is on its way, so Anna is very, very happy (by "happy," I mean "grinning like a Satanic cartoon bunny doing Thorazine shots with a Guinness chaser"), and I'm succumbing to a case of the happy-bouncies myself.
Other than a quick breeze through Target for socks and underwear, our big shopping adventure for the day was, oddly enough, the Saratoga Public Library, which I'd never realized sports a used book store within its walls. We did make off with some books, but the amazing part was the CDs. The CD selection was downright tiny, sporting only about 40 or so items, but geez frickin' Louise... Okay, look, they had Runrig, okay? And the Hindu Love Gods! And the Drovers! The damn Drovers, okay? And they were all titles we didn't have, and wanted. And for two thin buckeroonies a pop, no less. *happy sigh* It's enough to make a hunter-gatherer proud...
