*sings* O-ne-on-ta, heeeere we come....
Aug. 3rd, 2004 09:06 amI'd been talking for ages about taking
rafaela down to Oneonta, my old stomping grounds, for a visit and the nickel "What Used to Be Here" tour. Yesterday, I finally got my opportunity. The full report:
1) The drive down I-88 is still the prettiest stretch of road I know.
2) The one place I absolutely, positively had to go was the Autumn Cafe, my home-away-from-home, one of my favorite spots in the known universe. I forgot: it's closed on Mondays.
3) On the other hand, I got to indulge my pad Thai fix. Mmmm, noodles...
4) We decided some time ago that we can't go on a trip without a stated mission, some Official Reason we're wherever we happen to be. In this case, it was determined that the mission would be that I'd get my ear re-pierced, because my last such piercing (a decade ago) was done by Lollipop, a good friend in Oneonta. It didn't happen: she's closed on Mondays.
5) We took a quick ride out towards Otego so we could drink in the scenery and pop into Pie in the Sky. Why exactly did I leave the area again?
6) I didn't really see anyone I knew way back when, except for one girl I kinda sorta knew, not well enough to say hi. We did, however, stop into Green Earth Natural Foods' new humongous store, both to see the new digs and see Annie, my surrogate Oneonta mom. That part didn't work: her day off is on Monday.
7) We crawled out of two around 7 p.m., because that's roughly when they roll in their sidewalks for the night. We stopped at Lock 7 of the Erie Canal on the way home, which is a story in itself.
I think she liked it. I'm quite happy.
