slipjig3: (workie)
So I went to work with my guitar today. Just in case, y'know, someone wanted to hear a medley of traditional jigs, this being a holiday and all. Instead, I got two people in the first 90 seconds asking if I knew "Danny Boy." Philistines.

Work has been unimaginably slow lately. The problem is that our office is supposed to have exactly the right number of operators on the boards at any given time to handle the call traffic. If there's too many people working, they offer "coffee time," which is basically unpaid time off, offered up in 15-minute increments. If they can't find people to take the time, as a last resort they tell random people to unplug and "look busy." Today, so many people were unplugged that we were down to 4 people actually doing any work at any given time, in an office with 30 people on the clock. Go, us.

But again, this was a holiday, so we got to engage in Fun and Games. The St. Pat's variety crossword I wrote went almost completely untouched (probably for the best, because it kinda sucked), but everyone enjoyed the trivia contests held at 30-minute intervals for Valuable Prizes![tm] I made off with a nice copper-and-glass votive candle hurricane lamp, after raising a ruckus because one of the questions they lifted from Trivia Pursuit was dead wrong (yes, Dan Aykroyd would have been the first SNL alum with an Oscar nomination had Joan Cusack not gotten the nod the year prior, but she did, so there), which was one of the few non-crap prizes they offered. That'll work.

As I left the office at ten, I caught a few seconds of tonight's South Park, the one about the hippie infestation. Unfortunately, the episode was still fresh in my mind when I caught my reflection in the mirror by the main doors:
Shoulder-length hair.
Scraggly beard.
Loose shirt.
Eco-sneakers.
Guitar slung over my shoulder.
Lantern in hand.

Duuuuuude. Corporate America can kiss my tuchus.

Oooof...

I realized today that somehow, somehow, I managed to miss about 3 or 4 days' worth of LJ friends' list activities, and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm really, really sorry, all. Did I miss anything important?
