I hadn't listened to "You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart" (written by Bono, preformed by Sinéad O'Conoor, featured on the In the Name of the Father soundtrack) in a long time—probably at least five years or more. When I put it on this evening, I was experiencing a touch of Mood, which I was very much hoping to dispense with. The thing about this song, though, is that it has a knack for sinking into the deeper layers of whatever psychic sweater I'm wearing, a little at a time. Those of you who know the song will know what I mean.

You'll also likely know what I mean when I refer to the three rhythms: the piano-and-spoons of the first verse, the bass drum rumble of the second, and the breaking thunder when she sings "Oh, you're lost," about to dive into the third. It was this last one that grabbed me by the collar. It always does. [livejournal.com profile] rafaela was squirreled away in the bedroom with a good book and the electric fan running; for all intents and purposes, I was alone, left to my own devices. Ohh, a dangerous combination....

I had forgotten how theraputic dancing can be. Wild, unbidden, hair flying, the opinions of the world no longer relevant. I almost never do that. I did tonight.

Something tells me I'll be sleeping more peaceably than I have in ages and ages.
