An evening at the cinema
Nov. 14th, 2005 10:49 pmAfter months of careful scrimping and saving, my iPod Fund has reached the princely sum of 20 bucks and change. This is why my iPod Fund has officially been redesignated as the Movie Fund.
Today we headed down to Spectrum 8 Theatres in Albany (or as we like to call it, "Movies That Actually Don't Blow Badgers") to catch the matinee special of Good Night, and Good Luck. In three words, Oh. My. GOD. It's been a long, long time since I've seen anything that extraordinary in the theatre. At Oscar time, expect to see the film up for Best Picture and screenplay, along with a directing nod for George Clooney (All right, who here would have actually guessed that he would be a brilliant director? Fess up), acting nominations for David Strathairn, Clooney, Patricia Clarkson and Robert "Doomed to Be Perpetually Underrated" Downey Jr., and...well, let's just give Robert Elswit and Christa Munro the cinematography and art direction awards now and beat the rush, 'kay? If you haven't seen it, do.
Best part? Getting to support an indie movie house with astonishingly good taste in films, slide shows instead of ads before the shows, music worth listening to being piped in, brownies and chocolate torte for sale along with the Sno-Caps, and real butter on the popcorn. More than delighted to give them my money. Must do this more often.
