Today started with a nice visit with the kidlings, who are in the area for the Easter holiday. This led to my discovery the the rumors are true: Abbey is, indeed, and 11-year-old girl, with all implications intact. Yes, there were tears and rebukes and much foot-stomping and door-slamming and leave-me-alone-ing, over such crisis-level issues as shoe shopping (she didn't want to go) and her dad's perceived apathy toward the artistic merits of Leave It to Piyoko (manga and anime, thank you very much). After Kristi, her mom, literally hauled her upstairs under one arm in mid-melodrama to get her calmed down, Nik leaned over to me and muttered, "Psst! Let's go watch the misery!" I'm going to hell for laughing.

Abbey perked up considerably, however, when using the dreaded B-word (that would be "boyfriend"). I'd be downing Maalox shooters right now if it weren't so darned cute: as Abbey told me and Kristi confirmed, the fellow in question, one Jonathan, is a near-neighbor, an older man of the sixth-grade variety, and "geeky-cute," as Kristi described him, whom my daughter first spent major time with at a recent sock hop. (I swear, I couldn't write it any better.) They didn't dance, but they "hung out" quite a bit, and he made a considerable effort of finding her before she left to exchange phone numbers. Watch this space for further developments.

Meanwhile, on the home front, the good news is that I solved the What Is That Weird Smell? Mystery. The bad news is that I solved the What Is That Weird Smell? Mystery the hard> way. Just...trust me on this one. You don't want me to get into it with any semblance of detail.
