slipjig3: (the dude abides)
So.

I've been writing crosswordish things for Games Magazine for, what, going on eight years now. They've bought a lot of my stuff, but I think that has a lot to do with the facts that (a) I now have my foot in the door with the editors, and (b) my crosswordish things have been variety crosswords of varieties that no one else makes (yet). And all this time, I've been largely avoiding writing standard American-style crosswords, under the theory that I'm historically not very good at constructing them, and there are a whole mess of people who do a far, far better job at it than I do.

Well, sometime last year, I finally decided to bite the bullet and learn the art of American crossword construction. As a result, back around the beginning of 2008, I simultaneously did two things I've never done before. One was submitting a standard crossword for consideration. The other was sending it to a publication other than Games.

Today, I heard back from them.

They're publishing it.

The New York Times.

Oh. My. God.
