May. 11th, 2009 10:04 pmMilk—Stunning. Riveting. Deeply, deeply moving. Are superlatives enough? I didn't think it would stand up as well as The Times of Harvey Milk, but I stand throroughly corrected. I'm sorely tempted to go find Sean Penn and follow him around for a while, worshipfully.
Star Trek—Oh, man, am I geeked out. It's definitely a J.J. Abrams production—a little too slam-bang-action!-action!-action! for my tastes and, arguably, for the source material—and I've got a few quibbles here and there (particularly with the geography of Iowa, and those of you who've seen it know what I'm talking about), but all in all, they served Roddenberry's creations well, which is no small compliment. Special kudos to the casting director, who managed the beyond-impossible feat of getting it dead-bang perfect.
Snowball Effect: The Story of Clerks—A well-made documentary that OH MY GOD I WANT TO MAKE A MOVIE RIGHT GODDAMN NOW SOMEBODY GIVE ME A CAMERA AAAAAAAAHHH! *dies*
Next up: seeing if turning almost-40 has made Breathless any more watchable. My one viewing has been leading me to spit phlegm-laden invective upon the entire French New Wave movement, but I'm willing to plead youth and give it another go.

And speaking of movies, many thanks to everyone who has put in their nominations so far for CinemaBowl III: The Creme de la Crudde. For those who haven't, please visit this post, and nominate up to ten films to be in the running for the title of Worst Movie Ever. Deadline is the end of Wednesday. Thanks again!
