Progress of the creeping lurgh
Feb. 28th, 2010 10:15 pmMeh.
Last night: Was feeling fairly hale and sporting around 9 p.m., but by ten started to feel feverish and chilled all at once, and could not stop shaking. Went to bed very shortly thereafter. Suspect it may have been a reaction to the Robitussin with codeine I had taken. Would like my body to give me a little more warning next time.
Today: Was feeling better on the above count, which allowed me to delude myself that I was okay to go back to work. Realized after ten minutes on the boards that this was a mistake (my supervisor wondered why I was even there, given how much I was coughing), but couldn't go home without facing suspension due to the company's lovely absence control rules (please do NOT ask me to explain how this allegedly works—it was a stupid, weird side effect of the new absence system that would take too much of my waning energy to lay out, but rest assured that I'll be hauling a manager and a union rep into an office tomorrow to hash out what should have happened instead). Toughed it out until 8:15, then, mirabile dictu, I got a couple of hours' time and came home.
Now: Coughing like whoa. Head feels like there's an awl poking out of it. Praying that I don't start coughing hard enough that I throw my back out (again).
Meh.
