slipjig3: (filet o' fish)
So I have this vision.

I'll give those of you making a break for the doors a moment to flee.

Thank you. So, my vision is this: in the spirit of such annual lists as the Fortune 500, the (defunct) Spy 100 and so on, we create the Geek 100. Each year, we compile a ranked list of the most prominent members of the geek community, be they actors, writers, musicians, businesspeople, artists, filmmakers, or simply "known people." These rankings will consider not only these individuals' involvement in the media and technology that we love, but also their involvement as "one of us," as lovers of these same influences.

To compile the list, I'm picturing starting with an open nomination process, allowing a subset of the voting community to name any number of people for possible inclusion. From there, any names that receive multiple nominations would be included in the main ballot that goes to the full voting body (if there aren't enough duplicated names, all nominees would be used). From this ballot list, final voters would be asked to select a top 20/40/100/whatever, with some sort of ranking device utilized to deal with inevitable ties.

Thoughts?
