Hints that it might be time for bed: "Okay, look, I know I'm the one who said it, but if you can figure out what 'What up, Flaming Monkey Balls?' actually means, I'd be greatly appreciative."

Good night, all.

So, Richard Thompson last night. Holy flaming Jesus, I could have indecent relations with that man.

This was my third time seeing him live, and he never fails to blow me out of the water. The set list for the evening was a good mix of old and new, with even a few "1000 Years of Popular Music" numbers thrown in for good measure and two sets of encores. And oh, man, the things he did on those songs! I've listened to enough of his live recordings in addition to the couple of shows I've seen, and I know a lot of what he's capable of on guitar, but last night he sounded like he was kicking the walls down. The guitar solo on "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," normally a flurry of top-grade folk picking, veered so far from this mortal coil that I'm sure he had to brush moon dust off the frets when he was done. But that was nothing compared to the gymnastics he pulled on "Crawl Back (Under My Stone)." It was like he cranked the finger work up to 11, and then when he reached what should have been the fade-out, you could almost see him decide that no, no, he was not f*cking done with this, not by a long shot, and came back with fire in his eyes and nothing to lose, shredding the evening air to make sure that every snot-nosed poseur who ever thought they were better than him was flat on the ground and not getting up again.

So, yeah, good show.

They announced that they were recording the show (including his opening act, Liz Longley, who was quite good) and would have it available for streaming on a website I didn't catch; if I track it down, I'll link to it here. In the meantime, for those who care of such things, here's the track list (yes, I wrote it down, shush):
