First of all, thank you thank you THANK YOU to everyone who has listened to/bought/pimped out The Elmsley Count so far! Y'all are awesome beyond words! Sales have tapered off in the week and a half since the album was released, but I was expecting that, because although I've grown more comfortable with my songwriting and musicianship, I am aware of the harrowing truth that my self-promotion skills blow goats.
This really shouldn't surprise anyone who knows me well. Self-promotion is all about, "Hey, look at me! I'm awesome!" while the best I can usually muster is, "Hey, um, if you want to look in this general direction, I'm...not too bad, I guess. If you're into that sort of thing." It doesn't help, either, that I'm really new at this sort of thing, and that I kind of went at it bass-ackwards by cutting the album before playing any gigs. On the other hand, I've got a slew of resources at my disposal, ones that i wouldn't have had access to even five years ago, and friends and loved ones who can help me on the right path (I've already grilled
omnisti and
cluegirl for ideas and advice). Now it's just a matter of getting going.
I finally started expanding my reach beyond my own LJ f'list last night by posting four songs to Folk Alley's Open Mic pages; I haven't gotten much of a response yet, but it's there, so bully for that.
figmentj also sent a copy of the CD to a blogger whose name is escaping me, in the hopes of a review, and I have plans for a few other folks to send it to as well. But I can always use new contacts and directions to take this bandwagon, so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way.
Also—and this is the important bit—if you or someone you know would like to review The Elmsley Count for your/their blog or website, let me know, and I'll be happy to comp you a review copy. Thanks again, all!

[Postscript: Speaking of Folk Alley, you might also want to check out Marta Pacek, whose work I'm adoring right now.]
