My mom and her husband have a house on the Alabama Gulf Coast, thirty yards from the water. Somehow it remained standing through last year's disasters, but that's no guarantee of the future. I just tried calling her cell phone and got her voice mail; I left a message saying that her failure to answer had better damned well be because she's already on the ark, and for her to call me and let me know she's all right.

I hate Hurricane Katrina already. I try to go for unfailing optimism, but I'm still worried. Could y'all put in a happy thought for Mom and Bob? Thanks.

I'm panicking. I have family in the New Orleans area, family of blood (birthmom in Slidell) and chosen family ([livejournal.com profile] gwynraven in Baton Rouge) alike.

I've begged Gwyn to come here to ride out the hurricane. My birthmom was planning on spending the latter half of next week in Florida - I've e-mailed her to ask if she's leaving early.

Have you seen the national weather service advisory?

Hope they and their home are ok!

Damn, I hope they are okay, I was looking at the weather radar early this morning (I had not even seen a picture of the hurricane until today!) and nearly peed my pants. O_O That'll also probably mean some crazy rainstorms for us in a few days!

Happy thoughts done. But I have a feeling that the house is toast.
