So just how bad a day was yesterday? Allow me to enumerate, if I may:

1) The stomach flu. Gack. Only threw up once, but I felt like Wile E. Coyote-meets-canyon-floor for most of the day. I actually called in sick for the first half of my split shift, which I haven't done in many moons. Kristi generously chased the yard apes while I napped for a few hours, interrupted only occasionally by Nurse Abbey waking me up to offer me sympathy and stuffed animals, and to tell me, "If you need anything, call me." It turned out to be a 24-hour number, but it left me less well-equipped to deal with:

2) The tire that I've been occasionally adding air to turned up dead-bang flat; Dad-in-Law spotted the screw sticking out of it that I'd been missing for weeks. The sweet man actually removed the tire, drove it down to Glens Falls to get it patched, then put it back on (swearing only intermittently, at least from what I could hear from inside the house). I owe him big time. Speaking of owing:

3) Around the same time as the Fun with Flats Smile-Hour, I tried to locate the two checks totalling $185 that I needed to deposit, and failed. This meant doing something desperate: letting Kristi know that I'd lost them so she could help me look. Leave it to her to find them in the pocket of my bag that I'd stuck them in so I wouldn't lose them. Sigh... (I do wish she wouldn't look at me like that. It hurts.)

4) I actually did go back into work for the second half of my shift (which started a half-hour earlier than I thought it did, which meant a cartoon-style mad dash out the door). I really just wanted to put my feet up and get through the three-point-five hours on the boards with a minimum of effort. Unfortunately, no one alerted my customers of this, because (a) there were a lot of them, and (b) they were all assholes. My kingdom for a working voodoo doll...

5) Hopefully, today will be better. I do have to work, but it's 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. You'd be surprised how many drunk, stupid people will call up the operator at midnight, just to wish them a Happy [insert expletive here] New Year. Should be something resembling fun.
