Well, it's official: I am the biggest dork to ever walk this mortal coil.

Just how big a dork am I? Let me put it this way: when I picked up the three hopelessly cute denim-clad 19-to-20-year-old female Russian hitchhikers today, the first words out of my mouth were, and I quote: "So...are you from around here?"

Sigh. I think I now have conclusive proof that I will never manage to date anyone for as long as I live.

We should start a club - Dork Boys Anonymous or something. We can call or text each other in emergencies:

"I've just picked up three denim clad hitchhikers with accents. What do I do?"

"Ahh, think Penthouse Forum, and, umm, tell them that women, they are women right?, women with accents drive you wild. Whatever you do, do not say 'So, are you from around here?'...

No. No, that I am not. That's actually the main reason I gave them a ride: I trusted myself more than I trust the average Glens Falls resident who would pick them up. In fact, technically the are-you-from-around-here was the second thing out of my mouth; the first was, "You are aware that this isn't the safest way to get around." (Their answer: "Yes.")

Well, I did hear them speak when I asked them where they were heading; the very thick Eastern European accents should've been a tip-off that they didn't originate in, say, Bolton Landing. *sigh*

I mean, this was such a cliche Penthouse-moment that Bob Guccione would've passed it over as being too trite, and still I couldn't manage a question worthy of someone who has gotten past the sloping forehead stage of evolution. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch the Food Network in my bathrobe and cry...
