If I may offer a bit of unsolicited advice, if you're going to try to lie your way into a free phone call to a number with a collect block on it, you really need to fine-tune your excuses a bit better. For example, "But, operator, it's an emergency! My car broke down, and I left my cell phone at home!" can actually work, if you sell it really well, don't be rude and catch me in a charitable mood. On the hand, "But, operator, it's an emergency! I'm being murdered!" will get you not much more than a snarky mention in my blog. This is especially true if (a) you are calling your dad rather than 911, and (b) your proposed alibi doesn't get mentioned until we've been chatting for a minute and a half.
