That job I got? Might not be happening.

I finally got the temp agency's e-forms filled out. The company that I'll be working for sent me an e-mail ordering a drug test. The date of expiration on the order: December 29 at 5 p.m., i.e. tomorrow. I received and read this e-mail late Thursday afternoon, after the lab had closed for the day. Friday was Christmas Eve, when I was in Worcester celebrating with my kids (and the lab might very well have been closed). The lab was definitely closed Saturday and Sunday, and on Monday the area was still buried under a foot of snow. No problem—still two days to take care of things.

This afternoon I got a call from the woman from the temp agency. Apparently, the company had IM'ed her, asking about my drug test. I explained that due to my car issues, I had planned on going down first thing tomorrow morning, within the stated deadline; she told me she'd pass that information along.

She called back later while my phone was turned off and left a voice mail: the test had to be done today, no exceptions, and if I didn't get it done they'd be bringing in someone else. Message received at five, an hour and a half after the lab closed. The word I believe we're all looking for is, "@%$&#!"

UPDATE: Got in touch with the temp agency again. They said to get it done first thing in the morning. Insert whooshing sound of a Manitoba-sized sigh of relief here.

They do seem to enjoy setting people up to fail, don't they? Doesn't speak well of the job that lies ahead after jumping through all the hoops, IMO.

Dang!
Are you *sure* you want to work for these people?!
If they're that crazy about a simple urine drop, I have a concern that they might be issuing rubber checks!

I'm less concerned with rubber checks and more concerned that this lack of communication between parties is a harbinger of future HR no-win scenarios.
