I have this nasty habit of absorbing accents without my awareness—y'know, spend an entire afternoon talking with an Englishman, then suddenly catch myself sporting a British accent on every other sentence. The problem is that I don't do it terribly well, which became a concern when we began this trip that I knew would take us through a decent chunk of the South. I was afraid that not only would I start drawling, but it would either be the wrong drawl (e.g. doing an Alabaman thing while here in Texas) or worse, the sort of "Howdy, pardner!" horrible mishmash that a hopeless Northerner trying to sound cowboyish would attempt.

Luckily I stumbled upon an inadvertent solution: I just watched Party Monster with figmentj and her stepmom, and now I sound like an 80's gay New York club rat instead. Me-ow. I seriously hope this lasts.
