The latest on musical matters:

Trimming the Catalog

After a great deal of careful thought, I've decided that I haven't been putting my best face forward when it comes to online sales of my music. Specifically, there's stuff on my two CDs that I think really stand up, stuff that doesn't, and stuff that's frankly filler. I don't necessarily believe there's anything inherently wrong with that, but it means that visitors, more often than not (and I can tell by monitoring the site stats), end up cuing up one of the weaker tracks and then bailing out early on their first impression. Boooo.

So my plan is that I'll be taking a hatchet to both The Elmsley Count and Opposable Thumbs in an effort to remove the deadweight, improve the flow, and hopefully steer new visitors toward the good stuff. I won't be re-recording any of the tracks (not yet, anyway), but there will be some purging and restructuring: The Elmsley Count will lose one track, "The Snows," with the rest of the songs resequenced to, say, get "Legerdemain" the hell off the top of the bill, while Opposable Thumbs, a rush job if there ever was one, will be trimmed down to a lean seven-song mini-album, consisting of "The Back of Your Head," "Exothermic You," "Second Sight," "Kessel Run," "One By One," "Carnival Down," and the newer version of "88 Lines," not necessarily in that order. Again, it's not that I dislike the tracks I'm deleting; I just don't believe they're as strong as the rest of my material, at least in their current recorded form.

The Great Editing Flurry will take place this Friday, May 10, which means if you haven't gotten the CDs in their unabridged format, now is the time to hie thee over to http://adamfromm.bandcamp.com to lay thy blessed mitts on a copy. I also have a backlog of physical copies, which will be available at shows and the like until they're gone, but once they are, they'll be replaced with the new versions forever more. Go to it!

Super-Secret Message for Everyone At the February House Concert

Yes, I owe you an exclusive mp3. Yes, I remember what that mp3 is supposed to be. No, I haven't been avoiding it because of what it's supposed to be. (For the record: several weeks of bronchitis, followed by intermittent deafness in one ear.) But now the assorted medical situations have resolved themselves, recording time is nigh, and I have an arrangement together that is—and please forgive me for saying so myself—pretty damned awesome. The one teensy thing I'm missing at this point is *mumblemumble*the email addresses for everyone there that I forgot to ask for*mumblemumble*, so if you were present, please drop me a line with the necessary info. Thanks, and thanks again for coming! The show was an absolute blast from where I was standing, and I'm grateful to you all for making it that way.

Murder Ballads: For Real!

During my visit to Troy for the monthly First Friday music-thang at [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl's and [livejournal.com profile] aquila_dominus's place, my partner-in-rhythm [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl and I finally sat down to make some actual plans for Murder Ballads, the band we formed that has been in a perpetual state of nascence ever since. Now, at long last, we have a sackful of material (original, trad, and covers) which we've already rehearsed and arranged, and another sackful of material that we're looking to do in the near future, all of which adds up easily to a stage set and eventually—gasp!—an honest-to-gods album. I can't stop bouncing in my chair thinking about it, and if you've ever heard Clue perform, you know damn well why. Watch this space for further developments!

PhilCon

Information is still coming in, but a while back the awesome [livejournal.com profile] collacentaur contacted me with some offers of performance opportunities down her way, and between her and [livejournal.com profile] hughcasey, it looks like I'll be playing at PhilCon this November! *happydance* It's doubly executing knowing that Heather Dale and S.J. Tucker will both be there, neither of which I've seen in a while. If anyone's going down to PhilCon from up New England way and would like to carpool, split a room, or both, let me know!

Thanks

Again, my deepest thinks to everyone who's taken the time to listen. I literally couldn't do it without you!

Did you get Megan's new CD that I sent you? Can you send me your new CD (the old version)? Will John and Marsha ever find true love?
