So. A few hours ago I contacted my local telephone provider (which shall not be named but it rhymes with Schmerizon), specifically to discuss my recently inflated long distance bills, and by "inflated," I mean "tending to cause one to ponder which kidney to sell on the black market to pay for the rat bastard." And they provided ample amounts of Customer Satisfaction.

Which is to say, I now have unlimited long-distance calling.

*evil cackle* Methinks I'm a-gonna be on the phone this evening for an extended period of time. Don't worry if you need to get in touch with me, though: I got call waiting, too. Whoop!

Unlimited long distance?

Out of curiosity, how much are they charging for that?

Verizon has two tiers for their "Freedom Plan," depending on how many features you want. The lesser of the two, the one that I got, is $59.99 a month, which includes call waiting, three-way calling, caller ID and voice mail Yes, it's a little bit pricey when compared to other plans, but considering that I ran up a $180 bill last month (and that was after the employee discount), this is perfect for me.

This reminds me just how much I love Vonage, which is my phone service provider. I just plug my phone into a little box which is plugged into my cable modem. Cost is $25/month and includes caller ID, call forwarding, tons of features. And 300 minutes of long distance (they have other plans with unlimited long distance for $39.99 total, I mean including the basic phone service and tons of features). And I can pick my area code(s). Which is why I have a Minneapolis area code for my phone, since most of my calls are in that area code. So calls there are like local calls, even though I live a state away. (Additional area codes are $5 per month. So if I wanted to start talking a lot to a friend in NYC for instance, I could just add another phone number with a NYC area code for $5/month).

Anyway. It's cool. Though I suppose still the best deal only if you're already paying for high speed internet of some sort. (Though in some cases I know it's cheaper to pay for high speed net.access & vonage than for phone service with an unlimited long distance option).

Glad you got satisfaction, though! Just thought I'd mention an alternative in case it'd work for you or anyone you know.

That is a nice deal! Sadly, I'm obligated to go with company loyalty in this case, but this is sorely tempting me to change my mind.

Schmerizon = Verizon's Jewish cousin.

i had to post that comment, just in case someone needed a silly joke to brighten their day. It would be wrong to block up the chi and make my karma all cloudy by witholding. Right?

Hrm...

Does that mean that Horizon is Verizon's street-wise working cousin?

Hee! You're silly.

Oh, and by the way: as an employee of the company, I can safely say that the main corporation is the streetwalker.

That particular funny always gets a laugh out of me, regardless of how often I hear it or the context in which it's used. Kind of like how I chuckle inside every time I click on the "submit" button after I spell check my comments. Every damn time.

Felicitations on your new and shiny unlimited long-distance calling. Verily, and I say w00t!

*giggle* Glad I could amuse. And glad you said that; I was wondering if I'd beaten that line to death yet.

Verily, indeed. *grin* It's the best thing an LJ addict who's craving vocal contact could hope for! Well, that, and/or unlimited airline bonus miles...
