Look, I don't know the name of the kid Abbey chatted with briefly on the way out of school, and I don't care. I just don't think any father should ever have to hear his seven-year-old daughter say, "Dad, I have a problem. He's still my ex-boyfriend, but I still love him."

It takes a lot to literally stop me in my tracks. Abbey, however, seems extraordinarily good at it.

That is too funny. I suppose if I were a father (which I am not and never will be) it wouldn't be so funny. But, as a woman it's hysterical.

Oh, it's hysterical for me, too. It's just hysterical in a hold-my-brow-and-whimper-in-pain kind of way.

Oh, they all have boyfriends. Don't sweat it, Dad. "Dating" at seven years old means that you never see each other, you smile at each other in the hallway, and the "asking out" part is done by way of surreptitously passed note and mutual crushing.

That's reassuring, actually. It explains why she gets sad that no one wants to marry her.

No, but I want to (and contrary to what [livejournal.com profile] rafaela would have you believe, not just because Laura Linney goes topless).

Your girl is impressive.

But I'm still rooting for that Elvis impersonator...

Unofrtunately, once she found out that he wasn't the real Elvis, the impersonator lost some of his lustre, I'm afraid. Ah, well, love is fickle.
