Just saw the Oscar nominees, and all I can say is this: Oh. My. GOD. Naomi Watts...Keisha Castle-Hughes...The Triplets of Belleville...Shohreh Aghdashloo...City of God...Sofia Coppola (yes!)...Johnny freakin' Depp, kids...

Did I die, and end up in some afterlife where the Academy has actual good taste? (On the other hand: Scarlet Johanssen. Where is she, people? What happened?)

Scarlet Johanssen is a great actress. The Man Who Wasn't There, Ghost World, wow. I haven't seen Lost in Translation yet, though, but I'm sure she's great in it.

Was The Triplets of Belleville that good? The promos here were met with GREAT derision in movie theatres. Although the square guys in the suits... now, they look cool.

Honestly, I haven't seen it, but I have heard nothing but the highest of praise for it from everyone who has. I'm very much rooting for it, though (foreign film, small studio, underdog, and all that).
