The Wee Ones: A general update

Abbey and Nik are still Abbey and Nik, forever and ever amen. Abbey and I had a grand time last week skipping stones across Lake George, and visiting the few shops that are open off-season on Canada Street (going into the head shop was at her insistence, and not my fault, and besides, she didn't get it); she also went on an extended hike up Prospect Mountain with Grandpa, during which she held her own quite well. Nik's latest thing has been complimenting people on their hair ("Your hair looks nice!"), but unfortunately that doesn't translate into willingness to get his own blonde haystack tamed. Both have been enjoying the extraordinary weather we've been enjoying this week, which means that they both, boy-child especially, have turned a lovely shade of pink on their cheeks and forearms. A sure sign of spring if there ever was one.
The time for me to move is drawing perilously near (dear gods, it's less than two weeks away now...), and I'm trying to judge how the kids are going to respond. Abbey, the only one of the two who officially know's what's up, actually didn't show much concern up until about two days ago, when she came into my cardboard-box-strewn bedroom and ran into my arms, crying out, "I don't want you to go!" I was able to reassure her without too much difficulty, but I don't think I'll be getting away with it that easily come May 1. Nik doesn't know aout the move, but he's been in separation anxiety mode lately, and I'm sure that'll make for a rocky transition.
Kristi will be back in town mid-to-late next week, and I'm sure that will ease the sting of my leaving quite a bit; they miss her something fierce, and she them. But we'll have to tread carefully for now, and smooth over the craggy parts with extra hugs. That goes for all three kids: Abbey, Nik, and me.
