This was one of those days when I could draw a line exactly where the day changed from decent to pig doots: 6:35 pm. I arrive home, greet my family, check the mail pile, and see the words "JURY SUMMONS." Fuck. (Pardon mon Franglais.)

On the plus side, I picked up the portraits of the yard apes from Sears today, and I freely admit that they were worth every last bit of core hair that I ripped from my own scalp that day. They'd better thank me for this when they're 25.

Oh, and I finally watched Amelie last night, which made me fall totally in love with the whole wide world, at least up until this jury duty thing. As it stands, all I want to do right now is learn enough French to write Audrey Tautou and ask her to come live with us.

Speaking of movies, on TCM tonight: Touch of Evil (the restored version), The Stranger, Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, and The Trial, back to expletive-deleted back. I think it's an unwritten rule that you don't actually need sleep, as long as you have more Orson Welles than you can shake a visual metaphor at.

JURY SUMMONS

It won't help you avoid having to go there in the first place, but if you want to get dismissed right away, try cross-dressing. It worked for me.

Hmmm. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. (Kristi read your idea and said, "That sounds good! But you can't borrow my clothes." Spoilsport.)

That's what thrift shops are for! For my first drag king show I went to the Goodwill and found a suit jacket for 50 cents. (Okay, okay, my only drag king show.)

Unfortunately, I'm rather fashion-deficient. That's why I usually borrow Kristi's stuff, 'cuz she's the best-dressed human being I know.

Well, all's the better. After all, if you crossdress fashionably, they might not even notice that you're crossdressing, and then you'd have to walk around in heels all day for nothing.

*ADORE* Amelie. Adore.

Also adore Audrey Tautou. Have Happenstance here somewhere but still haven't gotten to watch it. Also really really want to see the new release with her. Only can't remember the name.

I'll second "adore." One of those movies where you want to duct-tape your friends to the couch: "I don't care how you feel about subtitles. You are WATCHING THIS."

Only can't remember the name.

Dirty Pretty Things. IMDb is my friend.

Actually I was thinking of "God is Great, And I'm Not", which I heard of briefly in the Post in early November.

I have been to jury duty a couple times, but haven't had to serve yet. Just got my summons a month ago. Explain please, why is it that I LIVE in Boston, the city of a million courts, yet they sent me to some podunk town for duty? Anyway, I am putting it off a year since I did just escape the institution and all. :)
I am not going to talk about movies right now, it will just aggravate me.

Because if it isn't as unpleasant an experience as possible, then you haven't done your Civic Duty, now have you?

Whyfor howcome?

Ah... for some reason my deviousness didn't pick up on that. I must be short circuiting.

Whyfor howcome?

Let's just say that I am the "odd duck" in my appreciation for the "finer" movies in this house.
