Preach it, brother:

"Hots for the Smarts," Richard Thompson

Mr. Thompson debunks the Dorothy Parker men-seldom-make-passes-at-girls-who-wear-glasses hogwash in short order. And quite eloquently.

OMG, so good!

I was previously enamoured of Mr. Thompson for his "Vincent Black Lightning 1952", which features the line "red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme" and was a favorite of one of my earlier Otherloves. Someday I'm going to write a novel of Red Molly's adventures after James dies...

So, I've been a fan for a long time... But this song has sealed the deal. :)

Ohhh, heavens. Richard Thompson = God. And "1952 V.B.L." = God's creation. And yes, you so need to write that novel. (You have heard Richard's version of "Oops! I Did It Again," haven't you?

Ooooh, found it. Fun. I kept debating between whether I adored it for its own sake, or wanted to giggle at it as a parody of /her/ mess.

Just found the mp3s on his site...

Toss the Feathers, with an opening of "The Book of the World" by William Drummond... OMG, melt, poetry in /that/ voice.

Pardon me, I'll be in my bunk.

I haven't heard nearly enough Richard Thompson, but I do have a live rendition of "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" on a limited-edition CD local station KINK.FM released. (Yes, that's the station's name.) And I am impressed with that.

Ohh, you so need to hear more. Once hard drive is up and running again, I might do up a sampler mix of RT stuff; would you like a copy if I do?

No, I can find his stuff. Multnomah County Library is very well-stocked with CDs. I just have to remember to look up his stuff, and this post is a good reminder...
