And so it begins. Details are at this post here. The bracket is huge enough to support eight conferences; each conference contains four divisions of 16 titles each. For each pairing of films, choose the one you prefer. The winner of each matchup will advance to the next round.

Deadline for voting is Tuesday, March 27 at 1 p.m. Please Note: There are two polls here; please make sure you press the "submit" button for both polls.

EDIT: Voting is now closed for this poll; any further votes will not be counted. Thanks, all!

Red Conference, Division A

[Poll #954137]

Red Conference, Division B

[Poll #954138]

And again, feel free to advertise.

Mostly slam dunks. The only ones that made me hesitate are A4, a6, a8, B3, and B8. I'll also note that B3 is utterly cruel, as the idea that either of them should be outside the top six in just wrong.

I agree, B3 is just torture. That pairing is nearly the entire argument for some kind of seeding system versus pure randomization of matchups.

Oh, I agree completely; the problem is that I couldn't figure out how to seed the titles without making some predeterminations about their viability, and I didn't want to skew the results according to my own preferences. If I do this again, I might just take the top umpteen titles from the IMDb list or something to that effect.

It kind of tweaks me when I have to vote for a movie I know nothing about just because I hate the movie it is up against.

See B7 and my vote for Belle de Jour.

I have a feeling that, for many people, that particular matchup came down to a vote between Citizen Kane and Not Citizen Kane.

Technically, I haven't seen On The Town the movie... just the Broadway revival with Lea DeLaria. But it was a fun show.

I've pimped this, Sir. And I'm curious (and without poll-making access): How are you notified when someone's filled out your poll?

From: [identity profile] nonethewiser.livejournal.com
Oh I can answer that - if you click on the link for the poll, and then on view answers, you can see who voted for what (if the answers are viewable to all as they are here.)

I mainly wondered if the system notifies him when someone's filled it out. So I meant a specific "you" (i.e. 'Jig), not a generic "you" (i.e. everybody)...

I am The Pedant. I lived in the crevices between the details. ;-)

Ah, well, there's no notify, but he's able to manually check, of course.

Thank you most muchly! And no, I don't get notifications on poll responses, sadly. Then again, I'd get swamped if I did.

I actually cussed out loud when A-4 came up on the randomizer. Fate is a cruel, cruel mistress.

Quick question from the (no-longer-)anonymous voting masses: what happens in case of a tie? Yellow Submarine and The French Connection are currently in a dead heat...

I'll likely do a brief rerun of that particular vote. The only other thing I can think of is a coin toss, which hardly seems fair.

My problem is I've *seen* most of these movies.
But then I'm a media watching junkie.
It's finding things I want to watch and have topics I like that is slowly becoming more difficult......

A problem, perhaps, but also an interesting challenge. You've crossed the line into "collector or experiences," which is an interesting place to be.
