Well, this is it: the last of the first round playoffs, and the last of the new titles before we start in on the repeats. My apologies for any movies I left out that rightly belong here, but again, this was a highly arbitrary list, and I had to draw the line somewhere. You know the drill by now: for each pairing, choose the film you prefer. The winner of each will advance to Round Two, which begins tomorrow with the Red Conference winners. And don't forget that there are two polls, so be sure to click both submit buttons. Deadline for this round is Wednesday, April 18 at 1 p.m.

EDIT: Voting on this bracket is now closed; any further votes will not be counted. Thank you!

Gold Conference, C Division

[Poll #968066]

Gold Conference, D Division

[Poll #968067]

Thanks again to everyone who has voted on these over the past three weeks. (If you haven't voted on yesterday's poll yet, you have until 1 p.m. today.)

*laugh* I think this is going to have to be my default icon for these polls...this was another twitchy one, m'dear...on numerous counts.

*sigh* I know. Believe me, I know. Realize, though, that as the deadweight gets eliminated, this is only going to get worse.

I'm aware *wink*

I expect that to happen in future rounds - didn't expect that in the first round.

but regardless, it means that the icon is appropriate *laugh* AND...after this round, it's no longer the fault of the randomizer, but voter choice :D

What weird matchups! Three Spielberg movies in one quarter of a bracket? On the Waterfront vs. Rocky??? Weird, weird, weird. These were random?

Honestly, it was truly random. If you're curious, I did it at work while taking calls, so the incoming phone numbers were effectively my percentile dice. The eight conferences were numbered 1 through 8, and the slots in each conference were numbered 1 through 64. I took each movie in turn, and placed it according to the last three digits of the incoming phone number at that moment; so if the last three digits were 629, the movie I was placing would go to Conference 6 (Blue), slot 29. (When dealing with phone numbers, assuming you're disregarding numbers that end in 00, pretty much any number from 001 through 999 is as likely to come up as any other.) If the three digits didn't fall within those parameters (i.e. a slot of 87 or 00), or corresponded with a slot that had already been filled, that number was disregarded, and I took the next one instead. (This leveled the playing field if some yoyo decided he needed to call the frickin' operator 27 times in one afternoon about his TV not working.) Not once did I override the randomizer's "decision," even when it was making me weep with rage.

C1 provides the wonderful choice of the most overrated "classic" film of all time, and the most overrated anime. C6 and D2 were very painful. And getting an opportunity to vote against the overrated piece of shit known as Kids is always appreciated. Especially when it's up against '70s Neil Simon.

I have to admit that there were one or two times in this when I voted less for option A than I did against option B.

My thoughts on watching the finale of Birth of a Nation:

"This is like a collaboration between Spielberg and Hitler."

And yes, i'm aware of how many levels of Wrong that is.

Serenity vs. Wizard of Oz was an easy choice. The Wiz wins, hands down.

But one of my childhood favourites against one of my adult loves in Lion King vs. Secretary? You have gone too far, man!
