slipjig3: (writing)

I am going to try very, very hard not to turn this LJ into All NaNoWriMo, All the Time during November, but as it's the first day, I do feel obligated to report on progress at least a wee bit. So:

* Word Count: 1873 Yes, I'm ahead of the game. No, I won't get used to it. Still trying to decide whether to count the words in the Milton quote I'm using for the epigraph.

* In addition to designated inanimate mascot Luigi the Dead Parrot, the space over the iMac is now also occupied by (a) my new writing talisman courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] rubian77 (thanks again!), and (b) a sign reading "SHUT THE FUCK UP AND WRITE" taped to the cubbies ([livejournal.com profile] rafaela points out that I neglected to include the word "bitches" at the end). They are serving me well.

* Do you have any idea how hard it is not going back and fixing stuff every three paragraphs? I imagine many of you do.

* Initial reaction on completing my morning's work: "Dear God, is this thing triggery...." It starts, um, badly. Not too badly, but badly enough.

* I still don't have a general writing playlist for iTunes. Seriously need to fix that.

It is VERY hard not to go back and revise every three paragraphs. If I make it for two sentences without revising, I congratulate myself.

Triggery is good. Except not. Use responsibly!

Well, I've managed to start Day Two writing without feeling it necessary to completely redo Day One, so I think I'm getting the hang of this. I hope.

I realized a while ago that the book was going to end up containing things that, if they were in a movie, I wouldn't be able to watch. And the opening scene was one I knew would be problematic for some people, although it's necessary to kick off the events that follow. That said, there were one or two bits that made me go, "Jeeeeezum crow...."
