Randomly-randoms, with whimsy sauce
Mar. 28th, 2008 11:28 am* I missed posting two days running? Peculiar. I blame society the temporary bout of fluish nastiness that made me feel like just so much indoor-outdoor carpeting. All better now, thanks.
* First of all, a bazillion thank-yous to everyone who sent well-wishes about the New York Times news! Unfortunately, we went way beyond the point of me being able to respond to everyone individually, which I am so sorry about. I did want to answer the question of when the puzzle is due to appear. I sent Will Shortz an e-mail about that, to which he sent a very kind reply (no, I did not pass out, thank you), wherein he mentioned he'd seen that LJ entry (okay, I almost passed out at that) and filled me in on how it works: he only edits two weeks in advance, but he makes sure to have a large number of puzzles handy and ready to go. As it stands, he said, there's about a six-month supply on hand, so six months is roughly the wait time, give or take. He did, however, let me know that it's going to be a Wednesday puzzle, which is a day or two later than I'd expected. (NYT puzzles are on a sliding difficulty scale, from the easiest on Monday to the hardest on Saturday, with a larger one on Sunday.) So, yes, I'm still happydancing all over creation, and I'll keep y'all posted on any further developments.
* For once, not only has my season's eye candy on Top Chef (that'd be Stephanie Izard) not been voted off obscenely early, she's one of the top contenders. And she's currently from Chicago, no less. *happy sigh*
* Speaking of Top Chef, I landed myself in pathetic splorfling gigglefits over the fact that there's a dishy blog about the show called Amuse-Biatch.
* And speaking of snarky food blogs, if anyone can get me the text of the short story "Sorry Fugu" by T.C. Boyle, I would be forever grateful. An mp3 of the Selected Shorts reading would be fine, too.
* Finally moving forward on The Noise of Endless Wars again. Almost done with chapter 8....
* Visitations from
issendai this weekend! A cornucopia of yayness!
* And a propos of nothing: who ordered all this white wintery $%@# to be dropped from the sky, huh? Who? Who?!
