* On Sunday, we celebrated not going on strike by going to the movies for the first time in eons, heading to Spectrum Theatres to catch Brideshead Revisited. Not nearly as good as the miniseries, but a far cry better than I expected it to be with damned good performances by Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon and everyone else who wasn't Charles. In other news: Hayley Atwell. Yes, please.

* The cat threw a drinking straw at me the other day. No, I don't know how.

* As per an earlier conversation, and do note that the question is not regarding whether you like or dislike the genres in question:

* God, I could use a backrub.

I know that Prog Rock is the easy answer, but when I first heard it, it was the work of legendary dinosaurs from 15-20 years before. So it was easy to believe that these great poets of the distant past were deeper than anyone I knew.

The angsty grunge moan gets my vote, because when it was happening, the songwriters were the same age as me. That guy who just got up on stage and sang "for twenty-five years, I've lived in torment!"[1] is posing. I am sure that for at least ten of those years he was more into Legos and Donkey Kong.

I have to admit that *all* of these categories have had annoying elements since they've been in existence.
But I'll Schmooze to The Who, Eagles, Cur or Nivana any day of the week. So much good music, so little space...I am not surprised the 70's are winning wither.;)

I have a soft spot for progressive rock, and almost zero tolerance for the 60s.

You say pretentious like it's a bad thing.

Though pretending to earnestness (90's) is problematic, it doesn't hold a candle to pretending to genius (70's).
