The Sunday of it all

Today, rafaela bid farewell to our most esteemed houseguest, the inimitable Mr. chris_walsh, who braved small town life and our own personal brand of squalor (complete with a non-draining bathroom sink) just to hang out with us weirdos for several days. Great times were had, great food was eaten, and he even managed to survive being introduced to "Paralyzed" by the Legendary Stardust Cowboy without succumbing to homicidal urges and/or grand mal seizures. This afternoon, we dropped him off at the Rensselaer Amtrak station so that he could continue on his travels to the wilds of Boston and Salem, leaving behind a half a box of Oatmeal Squares cereal, an alarming high score on Minesweeper, and a boatload of fond memories. Vaya con queso, comrade; we're so glad you could come by!

In utterly unrelated news, new Sunkist Float soda = Dreamsicle in a bottle = Adam go all swoony-like. Oh, and super-secret message to odhierre: the mix arrived safely, and rocks like a Norelco Rocking Device®. Thank you!

I'm disturbed, but also intrigued. First you have a Shaggs icon, a group I would have sworn only my boyfriend had heard of. And now you mention Paralyzed, a song I would have sworn only my dad had heard of.

Yeahhh, the whole "outsider music" thing's a slippery slope. I picked up the Shaggs after hearing one too many reports on it being essentially the Plan 9 from Outer Space of rock 'n' roll, and, well, I've been tormenting innocent souls with it ever since. The LSC came later; I'd heard one or two of his tracks and enjoyed them in their own weird little way, but it wasn't until fairly recently that I finally heard "Paralyzed," which...well, you've heard it. Just absolutely amazing. As much as I love introducing my friends to the Shaggs, there is nothing on this planet that compares to the atomic jaw-drop on their faces once the screaming starts.

I really need an intervention, before I start doing things like snapping up Wesley Willis and Mrs. Miller CDs. The road to madness, I tell you!
