A rubbernecking crowd formed among my coworkers at the windows of my second-story office yesterday. It seems that a construction crew had left a bunch of detritus just across the street—cables, construction-y gewgaws, a load of gravel, that kind of thing—which had attracted the attention of some grubby fellow who was strolling laps around the block for no apparent reason. The guy wasn't interested in stealing it, mind you. No, no, he apparently had other ideas in mind: we watched him walk up, and just...move it. He would move a few items just so (a cable over here, another one over there) then step back and admire his handiwork. Not quite right, apparently, so he made a few more adjustments, took another step back, checked it out from a different angle, then adjusted again. Walked away, circled the block, moved stuff around some more.

I swear to you, out of 20 or so operators on duty at the time, a full dozen of them were at the windows, utterly fascinated by this derelict-looking guy who just wanted it to be a more aesthetically pleasing pile of...stuff. I still don't know what he was doing; I figure he was from, I dunno, the local Feng Shui Inspectors, responding to a bad chi report or something. Given the recent Glens Falls tendency toward random fountain placement, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

A world that has bad chi reports and Feng Shui Inspectors? sounds like something Shadesong would write! I love it!

*grin* It was worrisome at the time, because we've had some problems with a few less-than-pleasant people hanging around our office and making trouble for female operators on their way out. But the more I think of it now, the more I love it. It make me want to find random things to rearrange.

My workplace definitely needs to call in the Shwing Phooey Inspectors!
