So. Shopgirl. If you've not seen, there's a moment:

Claire Danes is in the bedroom with her lover, played by Steve Martin. She slips off the kimono that's the only thing she's wearing, and slips on a pair of formal, elbow-length black gloves.

It is at this point that Adam's brain crumbles into teensy little mushy splinters.

I'll be...um, yeah.... *wanders off*

Except if Martin hadn't written the book in the first place, the movie and thus that scene wouldn't have happened. Think of this...as a...mitigating circumstance.
