Regarding last night’s post, a little background:

A few years ago, inspired by two of my ongoing obsessions, I came up with a crack-addled plan to write a Book of Movie Lists. Now, there are several movie book lists on the market, but for the most part these, especially those still currently in print, tend to be written by critics—Richard Roeper has an excellent one out, for instance—and their lists are more based on opinion rather than fact: “15 Great Date Movies,” “10 Underrated Directors,” and so on. What I envisioned was something much closer to the original Book(s) of Lists by the Wallace/Wallachinsky family, i.e. collections of (hopefully) interesting facts, rather than something designed for readers who are looking for something new to rent at Blockbuster; there’s certainly nothing wrong with the latter sort a book, but the lack of the former out there truly surprised me.

So I started batting around ideas for movie lists, some of which got finished, some of which got half-finished, and some (most) of which did get past the theoretical stage. The general idea never really went away, but I never quite made it to ramming speed on it, and what little list-work I actually got done languished on my hard drive like a once-opened jar of applesauce in the back of the fridge. But somewhere in the last week, it occurred to me that I could just start throwing liosts up on LJ: take it as it comes, no pressure to “complete the project,” and if by some miracle enough usable material arises from this I can see about getting it into book format, and if not...well, heck, it’s a nice little blog, innit?

Thus, [livejournal.com profile] lists_cinematic. Welcome. Feel free to add. Do enjoy.

(The first few lists will be things that have appeared in this journal over the past few years, but it’s all new material from there on out. And [livejournal.com profile] rubian77? I hope you don’t mind me swiping your icon for this.)

Only if you don't mind that I pimp out the movie blog!

I'm always up for Movies That Don't Suck, and since I don't have tv or get out very often, I rely on kind folks like yourself to keep me in the loop. :)
