So! I was going to talk about Friday, and the snakes thereupon.

[livejournal.com profile] botia has been running a successful educational reptile show operation for the last few years, and last week the stars finally aligned enough for [livejournal.com profile] rafaela and I to take the kidlings to one of her shows, this one hosted by Crandall Public Library here in Glens Falls. Lemme tell you, it was a blast: we got to meet (and/or meet again) her Argentinian tree frog, her box turtle, her skink, her legless lizard and several different snakes of varying flavors. (That, and freak out when she flashed us a tarantula shed in a jar after the festivities, but we shan't be discussing that just now.) [livejournal.com profile] botia has truly found her calling, handling the very young, very hypercharged audience with aplomb and presenting the educational aspects clearly and eloquently.

Abbey and Nik were fairly well bouncing off the walls before, and would have been doing the same after if they weren't seriously tuckered out by that point. Because we had an "in" with the presenter, they both got to experience the South American rubber boa wrapping herself around their wrists and hanging out, which they lo-o-o-oved; Abbey in particular was skipping around the room afterwards like she'd knocked back a double dose of helium pills. She'd gone in excited but unsure if she wanted to touch any of the snakes at all, and left with a half-dozen books on reptiles and repeated declarations of "I want one!" (Kristi, if you're reading this, I'm very, very sorry.)

So, yes, totally worth the while. (And incidentally, [livejournal.com profile] botia does kids' birthday parties as well, so if you're interested and in the general Albany area, , by all means drop her a line.)
