Well, it was another one of those Parenting Landmarks: yesterday Kristi and I bought Nik his first-ever bed. As in, emphatically-not-a-crib. So, yes, I'm feeling rather old right now; why do you ask?
First, the specs: it's a twin-size, with a pressboard headboard with two shelves, and a Serta Noble mattress and box spring. The headboard had a matching captain's bed drawer unit that we opted out of, because, well, the kid's already got two dressers in his room, fer cryin' out loud. But it looks great, even though Grandpa had to scare up a power drill because the holes in the headboard failed to line up with the holes in the frame. Ready-to-assemble, my kiester.
And as for his first night attempting to sleep without safety rails, Mr. Nikolas did remarkably well. Of course, he did fall asleep at 6 p.m. in the recliner, so we didn't have to deal with him trying to do so in the bed itself. But the important thing is, (a) he didn't wake up and attempt to go find a parental unit in the dark, and (b) despite getting himself turned 90 degrees on multiple occasions, he didn't catapult himself onto the floor. Woohoo!
Plus, he looked utterly adorable tucked in like that. *tears up*

Whereas I, at 20, managed to fall off of my bed last week. On my elbow. Followed by my hip. Followed by the rest of my body.
