So anyway, I have yet to see Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of Joel Schumaker, but I have heard much about Johnny Depp's performance, which, if reports are correct, is both (a) fascinating, and (b) eccentric. And now I hear that he allegedly based his character on Keith Richards. Now, I find this fascinating in itself, but I'm particularly interested because I know that when Dustin Hoffman played the title pirate in Hook, he based his character on William F. Buckley.

Which leads me to a question: If you were going to be playing a pirate, on which modern celebrity would you base your character? (My vote: Eddie Izzard. But that's just me.)

Can I be the Truman Capote pirate ... in a little pink nightie?

Or maybe the Fabio pirate, with my long hair streaming in the wind as I give chest-waxing lessons to my crew. (I saw him on an infomercial about chest-waxing. Funniest thing ever.)

Or maybe the Michael Moore pirate, using uncomfortable questions as my weapon against the ships we attacked.
