Y'know, I went to Jenn's place last night under the assumption that it was going to be a Game Night, and in that regard, I was sorely disappointed.

Well, all right, to be fair, Jenn did give me the heads-up when I called her for the details that it was really a hang-out-with-friends night, with a game of Balderdash tentatively scheduled as an Activity. And knowing what I know about Jenn and her friends, I could've probably surmised what the evening would be like. But basically, the evening was all about strong Margueritas and weed, and I had little interest in the former, and none in the latter. And as for conversation...well, allow me to run down the preferred topics of conversation:
* recreational pharmaceuticals everyone has tried
* body parts everyone has had pierced
* hell everyone has raised
* horror movies everyone has seen
* mosh pits everyone has been in
* thrash and hardcore bands everyone has seen
Oh. Yeah. I can, um, relate. Sigh...

But it was fun, in a voyeuristic kind of way. Jenn the hostess scowled at me for not allowing her to pour me any Death Margueritas; when I told her I had to drive, she said, "You should still be good for about five." (My reply: "Jenn, considering that ONE will put me under the table, no, I'm not good for five.") Colleen was there as a sort of anchor, which I'm always grateful for. And I got to see Jason and his sweetie (whose name is escaping me) again for the first time in a long while, which is a very, very good thing, as they are very, very cool, friendly people; we got a pickup hacky sack game going in the kitchen, which was the high point of my evening. (Jason is a game player, too, saints be praised. Must get his number...)

So, anyway... I begged off around 1 a.m. because Abbey had lost a tooth, and if the Tooth Daddy Fairy didn't come, it'd be the End of the World. (Later I learned that the Tooth Grandma had beaten me to it.) I fought the urge to say, "I'll just take my contact high and go now, thank you very much." Ah, well. Not the evening I had hoped for, but not a total wash.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must get Nik's birthday presents wrapped and his Bob the Builder cake picked up...

Yeah, I've been to many a party like that to the point where I think that's it's a formula. Ah well, at least you made the best of it.

See, if everyone's depraved, then it's not exciting. You, sir, are the Control to their Experiment, the baseline to their weird. Your role is vital. Be proud.

Or maybe they're the baseline, and I'm the weird. Hmmm...

You've just described a nightmare evening for me. You know, you and I might have some traits in common ... maybe I should add you to my friends list or something. ;)

I don't know if I would say that all is well, but more is well, undoubtedly. :)

Having formerly been the one watched, I now enjoy people watching at those type of events (although it embarrasses me to think what an ass I must have been...)
