Latest from Boy-Child and Girl-Child:

Nik was having a miserable time of it at his assigned school, thanks to some persistent bullies who made a point of pushing him past his snapping point. He has been working on not lashing out when stress levels start rising for a long while with up-and-down success, but the bullying situation was pushing him into the red zone on a daily basis. So not long ago, Kristi got him established at a new school in the area with a really low student/teacher ratio and better resources for dealing with his mood swings. So far, he's been doing phenomenally well. When I talked to him this evening, he was excitedly telling me about how many good days in a row he's had there; for the first time in a long time, he sounded happy about school. I'm crossing my fingers that this one continues.

Abbey, meanwhile, seems to be finding her rhythm. Her emotional breakdowns, from what I can tell, have leveled off quite a bit (or at least, as much as they ever do for an early teen), and academically she's finally pulling in a pretty consistent B average. Kristi's meeting with her teachers and advisers took place last week, and it was decided that they'd move her out of three of her special ed classes and into their regular classroom equivalents starting next semester. Crossing my other set of fingers there.

Also? They're awesome. That part's not new, though.

Yay for them both, and yay for YOU being a father who thinks his kids are awesome in spite of and more importantly, *tells* them. And for hanging in there. :)
