Not a good night for this. Not a good night at all.

My one and only plan for this weekend was to go to the Parting Glass, an Irish Pub down in Saratoga Springs, with friends and loved ones to Hang Out. Great, except that:
a) it's Hats Off Day, an annual event in which residents and 253,087 tourists put on old-fashioned snooty sunhats and ponce around like members of the beau monde, which means Saratoga Springs is packed; and
b) the friends I'd spoken to misunderstood my suggestion, thinking I'd meant the Parting Glass would be a good thing to do "someday," instead of specifically today, and actually already had other plans.

Gah.

None of this is anyone's fault, of course, and Colleen and Trey have been apologizing profusely to me, which is entirely unnecessary (and Col, when you read this, don't even think of apologizing; I love ya!). But y'know, given the way my day / weekend / week / month has been going, I could've used the distraction. Sigh...

Have you ever heard the song "The Parting Glass"? It's a beautiful Irish pub song... look it up if you've never heard it.

As for plans gone awry... we've all been there. You just need to be a better evil mastermind to pull off the truly ornate and well-crafted weekend shindigs.

Yep, know the song well. Unfortunately, I don't have a decent recording of it at the moment; the only one I have is a very, very old Tape of Tempest's version, which is...well, he really shouldn't be singing that particular song, I don't think.

Well, I have a CD of "Irish Pub Songs" and I'm not sure who does the song on there but it's a fabulous version.

If I ever get around to getting an mp3 ripper, maybe I'll be nice and send you a copy! :-)
