Last Action Hero (its actual title, yes I'm being pedantic) is, of course, a mess -- when it was being re-cut before release, the people working on the film started referring to all changes as improvements ("Here's Reel 7 with improvements") because that made it slightly easier to deal with all the changes -- but an interesting movie with interesting ideas is struggling to get out. It's not soup, but it's an explosive belly-flop of a film that's actually (as you know) rather subversive. One great moment is the film-bad guy in the real-world alley: "Hello! I've just killed someone!" I'd love to know exactly what stuff William Goldman and Shane Black added in their beyond-last-minute rewrite work, because the film was apparently even more of a mess before them.
